Career Gear, a nonprofit that assists disadvantaged men find and retain employment, has received ties from such famous necks as Zac Efron, Steve Carell and Zach Galifianakis to auction off this June to raise much-needed funds. In this time of economic uncertainty, these men have all recognized the pressing need to help those who are unemployed but ready to turn their lives around.
“We are so grateful that these inspirational men have donated their ties to Career Gear,” says founder Gary Field. “As we enter our 11th year, in an economy that will surely find even more men in need of our services, we are thankful to have their support. The funds raised from the auction will go directly towards giving men a second chance to start their lives.”
Since 1999, Career Gear has empowered disconnected job-seeking men to invest in themselves to succeed as leaders, fathers and positive role models in communities where there are often few. Now some of the country’s best-known and revered role models are helping to inform a wider audience of Career Gear’s mission by aligning with its cause. Their strong sense of style and a commitment to philanthropy will help raise funds that go directly to Career Gear to sustain important retention services and career counseling workshops that lead to quality-of-life improvements.
In case you hadn’t already guessed by his prominent placement in the hilarious bio video for host Aziz Ansari or his memorable past appearances, Zac Efron is a big fan of the MTV Movie Awards. Now, the Hollywood heartthrob will be returning to the most outrageous, unpredictable awards show of the year – and bringing some friends along for good measure.
Vanessa Hudgens and Miranda Cosgrove will be joining Zac at this year’s Movie Awards ceremony, airing live June 6 from the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California, as presenters.
Efron appeared in TV shows like “Firefly,” “ER” and “Summerland” before landing the role of Troy Bolton in the 2006 Disney Channel movie “High School Musical.” Soon after, Efron was an overnight sensation and has since starred in “Hairspray,” “17 Again” and “Me and Orson Welles.”
It was on the set of the “High School Musical” movies that Efron would fall for Vanessa Hudgens, another young star who had appeared in shows like “Drake & Josh” and “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” and films such as “Thirteen” and “Thunderbirds.” She also became an overnight superstar playing Gabriella Montez in the “Musical” films, then went on to appear in “Bandslam”. She is about to release “Beastly” and then “Sucker Punch” and preparing for a stage production of “Rent.” Hudgens and Efron have been dating since 2007 and attended the 2009 Oscars together.
Hosted by comedian Aziz Ansari, the 19th annual show will feature a musical performance by Christina Aguilera. Additional presenters include Steve Carell, Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Diddy, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Don’t miss the MTV Movie Awards, airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV! [Source]

All of the sudden, this week, the dynamic for this summer’s movie releases got a little bit more intense. Universal released an announcement that they were moving around their release dates, and bumped the Philip K. Dick adaptation “The Adjustment Bureau” from July 30 to Sept. 17. That meant they had an empty release slot in the middle of the blockbuster season, and decided against all odds to move the Zac Efron-starring “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud” up from Oct. 15 to July 30.
The fact that releasing “Charlie St. Cloud” on that day coincides with the release of the Vanessa Hudgens film “Beastly” cannot be just coincidence. Now not only will July 30 be the battle of the angsty dramas appealing to the younger Disney crowd, but it will also show which side of the Zac/Vanessa couple has the biggest box office draw.
It’s kind of a bogus move on Universal’s part, if we do say so ourselves. We understand that “The Adjustment Bureau” would more than likely be overshadowed by the release of Christopher Nolan’s much anticipated “Inception,” which hits theaters July 16, but “Charlie St. Cloud” has no marketing campaign to speak of so far, and even though we love us some Zac Efron here at Hollywood Crush, we aren’t too pumped up about it.
CBS Films, on the other hand, has done a great job of hyping “Beastly,” which we all seem to be anxiously anticipating. “Beastly” has a wider appeal to the audience “Charlie St. Cloud” would be going for, thanks to the star power of Vanessa, Alex Pettyfer, Mary-Kate Olsen and Neil Patrick Harris, and the fact it is a modern reimagining of “Beauty and the Beast.”
We feel like “Charlie St. Cloud” reaches out to a slightly older audience, but the summer isn’t the best time for a low-key drama unless you’re banking on someone like Zac’s star power. [Source]
