Zac Efron has no regrets about skipping university.

The 26-year-old actor, who shot to fame as a teenager in the ‘High School Musical’ franchise, doesn’t have any qualms about not pursuing a degree because his leap into acting paid off.

He said: “This was my chance. Even on the hardest days of it, with the paparazzi and all of the attention, it’s worth it to be able to be part of the movies.

“When ‘High School Musical’ finished, I saw the potential to continue to act and learn this craft. I’m lucky to be here. That said, I think there’s a lot of things you have to learn on your own and if you’re working, you don’t get to do them. I was suddenly an adult at 17, making adult decisions.”

The ‘Bad Neighbours’ star sought treatment twice last year foralleged alcohol and cocaine addiction and he admits his stints in rehab have made him value life more and scale back on work.

He told Britain’s Glamour magazine: “It’s important to find a balance and all I could do before was work, work, work. I’m more centred now that I’ve been in ages.”

It’s Zac Efron’s cinematic world — we just live in it.

As the scheming alpha male of a fraternity house, Efron is currently in the No. 1 movie in theaters, the comedy Neighbors, and he’s a part of another band of brothers in That Awkward Moment, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday.

Time will tell if he’ll get an Oscar nomination but at least he garnered an MTV Movie Awards win for Best Shirtless Performance as Jason, one of a trio of guys — including Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan — who all have vowed to lead the bachelor life and enjoy the same kind of single-dude, romantically unattached friendship they had in college. (Of course, love interests come and get in the way of all that.)

In an exclusive clip from the bonus features, Efron explains that he could connect with the trio’s sense of humor, the weight of their friendship and their shared good times. “It made sense to me. It was in my world.”

What makes it special for him, though, is how much it’s based on the life of writer/director Tom Gormican.

“Tom brings a certain perspective to it: ‘I’ve been there, this is what happened,’ ” Efron says. “And he’s always open for us to impose our beliefs on it. It’s kind of empowering.”

Gormican admits that he wasn’t sure Efron was the right person for the part until he spent a night hanging with the young star and his presence won him over.

“If you’re going to have a character’s who’s doing pretty awful things at times, you need someone who has an abundant amount of charm,” the filmmaker says. “When you see him or meet him, he would be very difficult to not like, and there’s only a few actors who can pull this off.”

Other extras on the That Awkward Moment Blu-ray/DVD include character profiles, a behind-the-scenes look at Gormican’s process, and a gag reel.

2014 has been pretty disappointing thus far for comedy, but Nicholas Stoller’s Neighbors is looking to change all that. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, then allow us to refresh your memory. Mr. Stoller is the same man who previously brought us side-splitting comedies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek, two of the funniest films of the last decade. This time around, he’s assembled one hell of a cast to lead the way. With Zac Efron, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, and Dave Franco all flexing their comedic chops at full strength, the laughs are huge in Neighbors, and they just keep coming.

The film follows Rogen and Byrne as Mac and Kelly Radner, a young couple who have just moved into a new home with their baby daughter. All is peaceful and idyllic in their lives until a frat, led by Efron’s Teddy, moves in next door. In hopes of keeping the peace, so to speak, Mac and Kelly attempt to befriend the young group of boys now living only feet away from them. Their plan works at first, but after the frat parties a bit too hard one night, and Mac is forced to call the cops on them, all hell breaks loose and a war begins between the two households.

Last weekend, the cast of Neighbors arrived in NYC for the film’s press day. While there, we were lucky enough to land an exclusive interview with Rogen, Byrne, Efron, Franco, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jerrod Carmichael, who were all a delight to chat with. They spoke about pushing the envelope with their comedy, crossing boundaries, working with babies on set and much more.

Check it out in the video above and be sure to catch Neighbors when it hits theatres this Friday! We promise that the film will have you in stitches.

Seth Rogen and Zac Efron may play rivals in this month’s “Neighbors,” but the stars were right at home, joking together in our latest Unscripted.

Rogen and Efron answered a few fan questions — and some of their own — digging deep about their first acting gigs, tween slumber parties, and Efron’s most memorable prank. But it’s not until Rogen recalls the time Louis C.K. dissed Rogen and Jonah Hill, and Efron reveals the Swedish Fish-fueled secret to a camera-ready physique, though, that this Unscripted becomes truly memorable.

“Neighbors” hits theaters Friday, May 9.

Matthew McConaughey helped Zac Efron find a work/life balance.

The hunky actor has credited his ‘The Paperboy’ co-star – who is a doting husband and father to three children – with sitting him down and helping him realise there’s more to work than making back-to-back movies.

Zac told GLAMOUR magazine: “During filming, Matthew and I had a lot of time to talk. We talked about life. He got me thinking, because for the past few years, I’ve been so focused on movies and work. I guess I’m compulsive like that.
“Matthew was the first person to sit me down like a big brother and say, ‘Are you happy? What do you want to do with your life, man?’ He’d say, ‘Let’s go do something fun today.’ All I’m thinking is, ‘Let’s go rehearse!’ I realised that there was something else I wasn’t tuned in to.”

One thing that keeps Zac grounded is a good workout, and he often hits the gym to lift weights.
The 26-year-old star said: “That’s my thing. It’s part of my life. It’s what I do and always have done.”
Zac also enjoys taking trips to remote locations by himself.

He added: “I like to sneak off to really remote places in the world and just chill. I kind of feel that travelling is how I’m able to stay real and grounded.”

Zac Efron said he feels relieved after opening up recently about his battle with addiction. In an interview on NBC’s “Today” show on Monday, Efron said that giving a recent in-depth interview to The Hollywood Reporter felt like “a weight off my chest.”

“It was a rough year,” the “Neighbors” star today “Today’s” Matt Lauer.

But the 26-year-old said that putting out his new film, a comedy co-starring Seth Rogen, was “such a great sort of icing on the cake for all of this.”

“It couldn’t be better now,” Efron said.

In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Efron, who went to rehab last year, said that dealing with addiction is a “never-ending struggle.”

“I was drinking a lot, way too much,” said Efron, acknowledging his drug use, too.

Now, Efron has been seeing a therapist and has joined Alcoholic Anonymous, which he said has “changed my life.”
“Things are so much easier now,” said the former “High School Musical” star.
