The 36th annual Deauville American Film Festival will kick off on Friday with a smaller screen, but bigger stars than recent years with Annette Bening, Terry Gilliam and Zac Efron among the talent expected on the Normandy shores.

The fest will host its first “Deauville: Season 1″ sidebar, a screenwriting and creativity platform for professionals in the TV biz.

Efron will be in town to present his latest starring role in “Charlie St. Cloud,” also screening out of competition.

Zac Efron is no party animal! The actor – who’s currently dating his former “High School Musical” costar Vanessa Hudgens – says at 22 he has already grown out of clubbing and prefers to get down to something natural with his girlfriend.

“I don’t know how people do that stuff. It’s a bunch of people you don’t know, a lot of intoxicated people running around that are sort of obnoxious or want something from you,” he said.

“Me and my friends, we all have girlfriends so we do couples’ stuff – like we all went camping, us and our girls. There were six of us, three buddies and three girlfriends, and we went out to the middle of nowhere, to this small campground with no running water, trying to catch food.” [Source]

Max Borenstein has been hired to write the upcoming thriller “Art of the Steal” for Warner Bros. with Zac Efron attached to star and produce, according to Variety. Borenstein will write the script based off an article in Wired magazine by Joshuah Bearman, and centers on a seemingly ordinary man who moonlights as a thief, pulling off a string of elaborate and well-planned heists. Zac Efron co-produce the action movie with Kevin McCormick, Jason Barrett and David Klawans.

A director hasn’t been attached as of yet and we have no word on a production schedule as of yet. Borenstein is also writing The Man from U.N.C.L.E. for Warner Bros.

Zac Efron hasn’t lost his beard. The grizzly-faced Hawaii-loving hottie was spotted on a little vacation this week in Maui with girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens. Just how wild did the scruffy one and his Rent gal get during their island getaway? Read on to find out… Not wild at all – at least not in public.

The two enjoyed some beach time, surfing and lazying around in the sand. Vanessa sported a bikini that showed off her sexy body while Zac’s wet suit shirt hugged his muscled physique oh-so-nicely. And we’re happy to report that the two are as nice to fans as they are to gaze upon. While waiting at the airport for their flight back to Los Angeles, the two signed autographs and took pictures with a few fans.

However, they were pretty much left alone. Efron was wearing khaki shorts, a black T-shirt and Ray-Ban sunglasses. Ms. Hudgens was just as casual in yoga pants, a tank top and a white trucker hat. Once on the plane, they settled into their seats in first class.

The ultra-private couple kept the PDA to a minimum. “They were so nice and normal and down to earth,” an eyewitness says. “And they were very very sweet with each other.” [Source]
